What is a Change in Family Status?
You may change some of your benefit elections outside of your company's annual open enrollment only if you have a qualified Change in Family Status, such as: marriage, divorce or legal separation; birth or adoption of a child; change in eligibility of a child; death of a dependent; or change in your spouse's employment status. You must notify your benefit department within 31 days of your change in family status. You may need to provide proof of the status change, such as a birth certificate or marriage license.
