What is covered by Medicare Part A?
Medicare Part A provides hospital insurance which helps pay for care in a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and for home health and hospice care.

You can enroll in Part A at age 65 without having to pay premiums if you are already receiving retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board, or if you are eligible to receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits, but have not yet filed for them. If you or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment, you may also be eligible. Furthermore, if you are under 65 you can enroll in Part A without having to pay premiums if you have received Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for 24 months, or if you have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
